The US News & World Report ranked Pittsburgh University in the top 25 public universities. Pittsburgh University’s strong areas include business, law, philosophy, engineering, medical care, philosophy of science and asian studies. Pittsburgh is also home to the internationally recognized Carnegie Mellon University. Areas of study this universities is well known for include robotics, engineering, computer science and architecture. If you are looking for private education, Pittsburgh has a variety of options. The biggest private high schools include Shady Side Academy Senior School, Central Dist Catholic School, Seton-Lasalle High School, Winchester-Thurston School, Canevin Catholic High School and Oakland Catholic High School.

Since Pittsburgh is such a large city there is an abundance of exciting things to do and see. The Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, located in Schenley Park, is a great place to spend the day. Enjoy walking through and taking in the exotic scenery. Similar locations include the Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania and Rodef Shalom Biblical Botanical Garden. Frick park is a great place for outdoor recreation. This 600 acre park is the largest in Pittsburgh. If you are looking for somewhere to take the family Sandcastle Waterpark is a great choice. It is located in West Homestead and offers a number of swimming pools, fourteen water slides and a hot tub. Sports enthusiasts will love the Mellon Arena. It is home to the Pittsburgh Penguins and is the oldest arena still in use in the NHL. Another notable location is the National Aviary which is the largest aviary in the United States. It is located in Allegheny Commons West Park in Allegheny Center and has over 200 different species of birds. Visitors enjoy presentations, interactive encounters, and feedings. Exciting festivals and events take place all over the city year round. A few of the festivals include the World of Wheels Custom Car Show (February), Kidapalooza (March), Pittsburgh International Children's Festival (May), Three Rivers Art Festival (June) and the Greater Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival (August).
